BROCKTON – In the past few weeks, Adilson Neves stopped eating, but the 17-year-old never said he was sick, his mother recalled yesterday. He stopped smiling, and that was unusual because he had a buoyant personality. Ruth Resendez said she learned why the oldest of her four children had changed. He told her he was a killer.
“‘I don’t plan to do it,’ ” Resendez quoted her son as telling her in the past four or five days. ” ‘It was by accident. I’m sorry.’ “
In an interview outside Brockton District Court yesterday, Resendez said her son told her that he shot and killed Edward Conley, a 56-year-old father of two from Bridgewater, who was working for Cowen’s Taxi Service when he drove onto Galen Street on Feb. 16.
So, you get a gun.
You get ammunition.
You load the gun.
You call a cab to pick you up at the end of a dead end street … even though you don’t need to go anywhere.
When the cab arrives, you point the gun at the driver’s head and say something like “give me your money or I’ll kill you”.
And then – “even though you didn’t mean to” – an “accident” happens, and the gun “goes off”.
Ooops!
Bad luck can happen to anyone!

Give him the speedy trial the Constitution guarantees him, then hang him in Boston Common at noon.

Perhaps the inner city schools can offer, in addition to their lamaze classes, basic firearms instruction– f’rinstance, never point a gun at something you aren’t planning to shoot.
(a recent local example would be the death of a 12 yo girl caused by a teenager who thought the sawed-off shotgun was unloaded and was invited to handle it by their pastor)

It’s a dialect of English – but I imagine it only has a formal name in some academic paper. My niece writes it with great fluency. She’s 13.
