data mining

This is fascinating:

In the race for the most popular votes in the Democratic Party’s presidential primary contests, Sen. Barack Obama’s lead over Sen. Hillary Clinton is about 711,000 votes … with 429,000 of that lead coming from his home base of Cook County. That margin in Cook County represents almost 60% of Obama’s total lead nationwide.

Sen. Clinton has roots here in Cook County as well; it’s a diverse county with almost as many voters in the inner suburbs (including her Park Ridge and my own village of Skokie) as in the city of Chicago itself. It would be interesting to know how much of that 429,000 comes from Cubs precincts, and how much from White Sox.

What does hockey have to do with this?

Not much, for you doctrinaire statists. The rest of us are more impressed by uncoerced community affiliations, as revealed by leisure-time clothing and spending habits, than by arbitrary lines drawn on a map by functionaries.

Forget about which sports team they root for.

I’m more interested in how many of them still have a pulse. This is, afterall, Chicago politics.

Travis is at least an ambivalent defender of civil rights for the metabolically challenged.

Joshua, I’m thinking that maybe you missed Travis’ joke?
