there are six flags on the moon, and every one of them was put there by an American hand

Michelle Obama committed the first really serious blunder of her husband’s campaign today:
“For the first time in my adult life, I am proud of my country,” she told a Milwaukee crowd today, “because it feels like hope is making a comeback.”
Oh yeah, that’ll make a winning slogan in November – if your spouse is running for mayor of Berkeley. President of the United States? Not so much.
I usually hate my the government, but I almost always love my country.
I mean, dang, we put men on the moon, gave birth to Mark Twain, created the Blues, created the Internet, sent British soldiers packing, split the atom, kicked the asses of the Nazis and the Imperial Japanese, crushed communism, developed BBQ into an artform, and put both Battlestar Galactica and American Gladiators on the air not once, but twice.
We can’t claim Borges, Art Nouveau, armed men in kilts, and a few other things, but all in all I’m pretty well pleased to call myself an American.
I’ve got about this much patience for professional sad sacks and whiners.
Michelle: France called, they want their pissy anti-American attitude back.

John Lee Hooker, Pulled Pork, and the pre 64′ Model 70..
If those aren’t reasons to love America, then you’re probably a dirty hippy!
And I would point out that although we don’t have “armed men in kilts”, we do have their decendents. The left hates them too – they’re commonly known as a “Rednecks” or “Hillbillies”.

She goes to Harvard Law and isn’t proud of her country, but the working class Mexicans I see on the public bus are wearing pro-American hats. I guess she just hasn’t been given enough. A pox on all politicians.

Well said.
I should clarify my position on immigration: in addition to being in favor of Mexicans entering the country, I am in favor of leftists leaving it.

Not necessarily. In California, Hispanic voters were reliably Republican until Pete Wilson killed the goose that laid golden eggs. Wilson had won re-election as governor on an anti-affirmative action platform, and began running for President on an anti-illegal immigration platform. he didn’t get very far, but his rabid California supporters pushed Hispanic Californians over to the dark side.
Most Hispanics I know are pretty libertarian (especially when it comes to income taxes which are not as widespread south of the border). It’s simply the anti-immigration rhetoric that encourages them to vote with the leftists.

Not to mention that Six Flags Over The Moon would be a pretty kick-ass theme park, and an American one to boot.

just popping in, with a small and silly comment: the internet (in the meaning of the world wide web) was invented in Switzerland. But I agree with everything else.. and i must say that I envy you: you can be proud of your country, I, as Italian, can’t anymore.

Well, the WWW is just something running on the internet. And Tim lives in the next town over. ;-)
But I dunno, I remember reading about an Italian captured by “freedom fighters” in Iraq who was going to have his head cut off, who yelled “I’ll show you how an Italian dies!” and fought back, robbing them of their PR stunt. So, if that’s how an Italian dies, I’d observe that even if you can’t be proud of your country, you can at least be proud of your countrymen.
