sell your cloaks and buy swords
Turns out that the crazy who shot up a seminary and a church wasn’t stopped by remorse, or the police, or a SWAT team…but by a member of the church security team, who was armed.
Hoo-ahh.

I’m trying to get past the idea of having armed security guards at church.
What a world.

It’s why I carry at church, among many other places.

Weird enough that the goyim carry money on the sabbath, and pass the plate right out in public. Carrying in the other sense seems meek and mild in comparison.

That’s one thing – but having a church with security guards …. that’s wild.

Again, we all live different lives. Despite my previous snark, I would be as unlikely to carry a weapon to shul on shabbat or holidays as a wallet, but I can’t remember the last time I attended a high holiday service (except in Israel, of course) that didn’t at least hire a uniformed rent-a-cop and station a greeter with him to identify the regulars.
This was in front of the synagogue where we meet, last spring. And this was on our walking route home. I’m not reaching for sympathy here; West Rogers Park and Skokie are as safe and heymish and optimistically American as anywhere I’ve ever lived. But sure, houses of worship are conspicuous targets — they have been since the Bronze Age, no?

They may not always have a security guard – this report (via Instapundit) says that the church ‘”prepared in advance” for a possible attack’ in response to an attack on a missionary training center in Denver earlier that day.

Spoke to my college friend Karen (Dahlby) Tallentire last night.
She apparently knows the women who shot the perp.
