ESR reads the source code: “This isn’t just a smoking gun…”
http://esr.ibiblio.org/?p=1447
From the CRU code file osborn-tree6/briffa_sep98_d.pro , used to prepare a graph purported to be of Northern Hemisphere temperatures and reconstructions.
;; Apply a VERY ARTIFICAL correction for decline!!
;
yrloc=[1400,findgen(19)*5.+1904]
valadj=[0.,0.,0.,0.,0.,-0.1,-0.25,-0.3,0.,- 0.1,0.3,0.8,1.2,1.7,2.5,2.6,2.6,2.6,2.6,2.6]*0.75 ; fudge factor
if n_elements(yrloc) ne n_elements(valadj) then message,’Oooops!’
;
yearlyadj=interpol(valadj,yrloc,timey)
This, people, is blatant data-cooking, with no pretense otherwise. It flattens a period of warm temperatures in the 1940s 1930s — see those negative coefficients? Then, later on, it applies a positive multiplier so you get a nice dramatic hockey stick at the end of the century.
All you apologists weakly protesting that this is research business as usual and there are plausible explanations for everything in the emails? Sackcloth and ashes time for you. This isn’t just a smoking gun, it’s a siege cannon with the barrel still hot.
UPDATE2: Now the data is 0.75 scaled. I think I interpreted the yrloc entry incorrectly last time, introducing an off-by-one. The 1400 point (same as the 1904) is omitted as it confuses gmuplot. These are details; the basic hockey-stick shape is unaltered.
From Thomas Sowell:
No one will really understand politics until they understand that politicians are not trying to solve our problems. They are trying to solve their own problems– of which getting elected and re-elected are number one and number two. Whatever is number three is far behind.
What many have suspected has been shown to be true. Governments all around the world have been paying people to fake data to get more power.

The Joyce Foundation tried this game with ginning up anti-gun “scholarship” to be published – and Obama spent eight years on the Board of the Joyce Foundation, so this should be nothing new to him – just another arm among the Leviathan’s many tentacles.

So, are you saying you believe the unfudged tree rings more than the thermometers?

If you download the zip file and read the code, the briffa_sep98 set of code seems to not give the results the writers were looking for. The briffa_sep98_d program was added to artificially create warming from the tree ring data.
There is other code out there to artificially create warming from the thermometers.
Take a look at the surface stations project. 69% of the temperature stations are located close too or next too an artificial heat source.
Tree rings have been shown as unreliable since there are too many variables to tree rings size.
Thermometers are trust worthy but the government funded scientists keep rewriting the historical record every few years.
There are many people that would like to see the raw data, but the government funded scientists like to work in the shadows and resort to name calling when people ask for openness.

I found this in greenpeace.txt

Hi Mick,
It was good to see you again yesterday – if briefly. One particular
thing you said – and we agreed – was about the IPCC reports and
the broader climate negotiations were working to the globalisation
agenda driven by organisations like the WTO. So my first question
is do you have anything written or published, or know of anything
particularly on this subject, which talks about this in more detail?
My second question is that I am invovled in a working group
organising a climate justice summit in the Hague and I wondered if
you had any contacts, ngos or individuals, with whom you have
worked especially from the small island States or similar areas,
who could be invited as a voice either to help on the working group
and/or to invite to speak?
All the best,
Paul

Mick is Dr Mick Kelly with the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia. Nothing like government funded leftist scientists working closely with leftist political groups to build a UN run climate justice system.

This is sort of like asking me if I think that Alice in Wonderland or Flatland provide the more convincing case for tort reform.
