I made a mistake
http://themoment.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/…
If I’m not in Italy or at a cafe that studies the craft of coffee, like Joe the Art of Coffee in Manhattan or Intelligentsia in Chicago, I’m never sure how to order a cappuccino…
Why, oh why do I read the NYT? Steppin in a steaming pile of this sort of uber-sophisticated arched-eyebrow foodie carping is my own damn fault.

Well, admitting to yourself that you have a problem is always the first step, so there is still hope for you :)

1) Intelligentisia is overrated (though good)
2) I hate [fill in blank here] snobs. Coffee snobs, wine snobs, cigar snobs, etc. I like lots of things; I try to learn more about such things and refine my tastes; but I hate people who look down there noses at the lumpenmasses ordering what THEY like, just because it doesn’t conform to their *sniff* standards.

To paraphrase Matthew, “And when thou order coffee, thou shalt not be as the assholes are: for they love to order pretentiously standing in the Starbucks and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen and heard of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward. By which I meanest the eye-rolls and surreptitious spittle of barristas.”

“Intelligentsia in Chicago”
There’s a coffeeshop named ‘Intelligentsia’?
Chicago is becoming a black hole of onanistic self-adulation to rival NYC.
Dear Illinois – you don’t have to put up with this crap. Move to Indiana, we’re much closer to being a free state.

That post -is- totally pretentious, but the stuff that passes for an ‘espresso drink’ at your typical starbucks/starbucks-wannabe is really pathetic. I don’t care 6 oz vs 8 oz, or whatever, but whenever I get a coffee or whatever at starbucks it just tastes like coffee-flavored warm milk. ew. Of course the cafe near NYU I go to for good coffee totally sucks, apart from the quality of the coffee. The baristas are so stoned that it takes them hours to draw a single drink. It often takes me 20 minutes just to get my drink. And there is never any seating available, any time of day. So I am not advocated for pretentious coffee either.

I’m not sure I want to live in a world where the person who writes that sentence isn’t immediately…dealt with.
