aside from the code violation

The two giant signs had been in front of Ryan Frederick’s home for months, gathering signatures in support of a man who had been arrested and accused this year of killing a Chesapeake police detective [ who burst into his home in the middle of the night without annoucing himself as an officer].

That was until September, when the city of Chesapeake ordered the signs to be removed if no one obtained a permit for them…

Aside from the code violation, the signs had become distracting for the community, Johnson said… The signs were a “constant reminder that that’s where the police officer was killed,” he said.

Oh no! A distraction!

Yeah I don’t get why the defense attorney isn’t going for self defense. I know the area the real estate in the area is really up for grabs and I wonder if the police are pushing people out to condemn the houses for better real estate values.
